In 1977 a TV mini-series called "Roots" had Americans enthralled about their beginnings. Suddenly everyone was aware that we had come from "somewhere." Schools had small genealogy projects where the kids came home and asked their elders where they had come from. As more people started their family stories, it became apparent to some that it would be great to record these stories, not only to preserve cultural heritage, but to connect one generation with another. The recording media allows a grandchild to hear a deceased grandparent's voice, and to get to know that person and what they were like in their own voice.
Don't let another minute go by without recording precious memories. The gift of one's self is the greatest gift of all.
